America and the Cold War discussion

I need two responses to two student responses. What is in bold is the original question followed by a student’s response. I need a response to their response. There are only two! They need to be atleast 100 words each

1.In transition from World War II to the Cold War, Germany and Japan quickly shift away from being enemies of America. Using the Learning Resources, explain how and why this occurred.

-Germany and Japan quickly shift away from being enemies of America because of the bombs America deployed at Hiroshima and Nagasaki. According to Sage, “That standoff between the two great superpowers, the United States and the Soviet Union, and their allies, probably occurred because for the first time in history all sides could readily understand the huge price they would pay by precipitating an all-out conflict. Because of the use of the two atomic bombs in World War II on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, evidence existed to show how horrible a full-blown nuclear exchange would be. By the mid-1950s both sides had constructed bombs which were thousands of times more powerful than the first two dropped in 1945; in a nuclear exchange, there might well be no winners.” (Sage, 2012) The bomb was not only a threat to limiting Japans security but the Soviets as well. The fact is the bomb did its job in making sure Western Europe would depend on the United States to maintain its security rather than receiving security from the Soviet Union. The United States could protect the Western Europe by placing it under the American so called, “nuclear umbrella” of areas threatened to use the bomb to defend.

2. Throughout the Cold War, simmering conflicts exploded into military confrontations. One of the first was the Korean War from 1950-53. Throughout the Cold War, simmering conflicts exploded into military confrontations. One of the first was the Korean War from 1950-53. Using the Learning Resources, explain why the Korean peninsula was important to the Cold War issues, how and why the war evolved, and what this local event meant for global politics in the 1950s.

The Korean peninsula was important to the Cold War issues in many ways such as North Korea and South Korea’s had a different way of life, China rising to become a new superpower in the world, and the fear that Korea could danger the United States or their allies with nuclear weapons. After World War II, both sides agreed to temporarily divide Korea at the 38thparallel of latitude north of the equator. 1 The north was made up of Koreans that were led by Chinese armies to fight back the Japanese from taking over Korea. 1 Kim II-sung had received training from the Soviet army and later became in control of North Korea. 1 The south was made up of teachers and scientists that were supported by the United States. 1 In June of 1950, South Korea invaded North Korea in a surprise attack. The United States thought that this attack was led by China and went to defend North Korea. 2 The United States was able to hold a small corner of South Korea and eventually push back to the 38th parallel. China becoming an economic superpower was another important event that led to the cold war. The United States was on a mission to defeat communism and their biggest competitor was China. China economy was estimated worth of 42 trillion versus the United States at 24 trillion. 2 With this economic power they power over trade and many countries relied on their goods. With China backing South Korea they could create weapons together that could strike the United States and its allies at any moment. The United States was forced to act to prevent this from happening and make sure to hold North Korea. In July of 1953 both sides decided to sign an agreement to make the 38th parallel the border between North Korea and South Korea. 1The Korean Peninsula was a very important issue that the rest of the world watched closely and many feared this would lead to the next world war. If the United States and their allies would not have helped South Korea out in their time of need China would have been able to grow and spread communism.
