EC200/EEC2613 Rasmussen Module 4 Nicos Development Case Scenario Study
Review the Case Scenario below and take notes on any data relevant to Nico’s development. Remember, PILES stands for P=physical, I=intellect, L=language, E=emotional, S=social.
Nico – Age: 4 years, 7 months
Nico has selected the blocks area to use for active learning time. He has selected blocks for 8 out of the last 10 days. in the block area, he usually plays alone or with one other child. Jayla.
Nico and Jayla are buiding together today
Jayla says, “I want to build a house for the horsee.”
Nico says, “That’s a stable. Let’s build spots for each horse and then a big door so they can go outside”
Nico picks up the clipboard in the center and draws a floor plan. He writes on the top: stable and the “s” is backwards
They begin to build, looking at the drawing every couple of minutes.
When a wall collapses, Nico directs Jayla, “No, Jayla, the small blocks go on top of the big blocks” and he demonstrates putting a small block on the top of a big block.
Nico says, “I’m going to put a chimney on it” and stacks 10 small blocks up on top of each other
Another child runs into the block area and knocks down the stable. Jayla starts to cry. Nico throws a block at the other child and says, in a loud voice, “Hey! We were building that! Please move!” and then turns to Jayla and says, “It’s OK, we can do it again. We have our picture.”
Address the following item in a one (1) page submission, providing at least one (1) example from the case for each of your responses.
Present evidence of Nico’s development in each of the five (5) PILES domains. Provide a minimum of one (1) example of each
Identify two (2) areas of strength for Nico
Describe one (1) activity plan for Nico based on the developmental data you have collected. Why did you choose this activity/materials and which domain(s) does it address?
