First I would like to say thank you to everyone. I have never liked the marketing aspect of business. After this class, I can’t lie and say i do yet either. But I will say that I learned quite a bit by doing the assignments and also reading through everyone’s discussion posts and responses. It’s amazing how such a small group can have such a range of perceptions on business and the marketing aspect.
I can say I can the importance of marketing and can appreciate some of the work that is done in the background that a person may not necessarily think of when they see products. And I know this class probably only skimmed the surface of the entire marketing element of business. And I did enjoy creating my product and putting it to paper. It is something I have actually thought of doing one day. I just haven’t reached that point in which I can start.

The biggest take-away from this class is that running your own business is HARD. Obviously, most know that before taking a marketing class, but after seeing how much goes into just the marketing aspect of a business I cannot imagine how much work the business as a whole would be. However, after this class, I feel much more equipped to run the marketing side of a business. I think that the most beneficial portion of this class was learning about target market. There are so many distinct groups and ways that you can break down the market to a very specific group that will fit the needs of your business and who will want to buy your product.
This class also showed me that learning from the strengths and weaknesses of your competitor is going to be vital to keeping up with the market. There are so many businesses to compete with and your business has to find ways to stand out in order to make it in this dog-eat-dog world. This is where discovering the best distribution channel for products is going to be an important factor as well. If I were to ever run a business, this class would be have been crucial to the marketing aspect and I am thankful I was able to learn from it even if I never plan to own my own business.
I believe professionally this class will help me to better market myself. There are many good points and tools about personal selling which is essentially what you are trying to do when applying for a new job. I will use this in the near future as I start to apply for management jobs and during interviews.
