One Change I thought was an important idea made by Protestant Churches more specifically by the Lutheran Church was the separation of church and state. The protestant reformation began officially October 31, 1517 by then, Catholic Priest Martin Luther who was later excommunicated for his believes. Luthers followers started the Lutheran Church in Augsburg, Germany 1530. * years later the lutheran Church was granted legal status in the Holy roman Empire which then spread throughout Germany then Netherlands until coming to America.One belief lutherans have is that where one ended up after death was based on your soul and the amount of love one had not on how much one payed for indulgences or the shortening of time in purgatory, the after life limbo between heaven and hell. I believe this is important because faith is not something the government can dictate and because there is no way of measuring the amount of faith someone has because everyone is different and living in different circumstances, it takes away the control the government has over your own salvation. It seems odd that people would try to buy their way into heaven instead of treating others how they too would like to be treated.
