This week we’re focused on the mainstream IR theories of Realism, Liberalism and Constructivism.
Please pick one theory and complete the steps below:
- Define the theory in your own words- what are the main ideas?
- What are the strong points of theory? What are the weak points? In other words, what events can the theory explain, and what cannot it not explain?
- Use this theory (and the others if applicable) to explain a current event in international relations.
- Read and respond to your classmates- can you apply a different theory to the event they chose? Discuss.
What are the weak points of your chosen theory and why? Be sure to define your terms and to support your answer with references to the course materials (the videos) and/or the lesson for this week.
Instructions: Your initial post should be at least 350 words. Please respond to more than 2 other students (at least three to be eligible for full credit). Responses should be a minimum of 150 words and include direct questions, evidence from the literature, alternative points of view or additional insight. For more information, please review the forum discussion rubric attached below. This is the rubric that will be used for all of the forums in this class.
