This assignment requires brief responses to a variety of areas related to working with chronic illness. How would the two models of care be similar/be different for chronic care?
As the population ages and individuals survive longer, chronic illness is increasing. There is a social movement to decrease institutionalization in nursing homes in favor of keeping patients in their own communities. Do you agree or disagree with the rationale and premises of this movement? Defend your position from a biopsychosocial standpoint.
Ideally, formal long-term care services can enable individuals and their families to maintain independence as long as possible. If you had a close family member living with mid-stage Alzheimer’s disease, what types of services and level of intensity would you select for them? Defend your position.
What are your feelings, experiences, and ideas about palliative care? About hospice care? How can you use definitions and information from professional organizations and published reports to inform you about palliative, hospice, and end-of-life care? Given that information, then how do you define palliative care?
