I need to response and give my opinion to the following:

Part 1: (Response posts should be 8-10 sentences)

In the Susan B. Anthony Chasing Grover Cleveland, 1892-1896, cartoon the action is Susan B. Anthony chasing after President Grover Cleveland trying to get his attention for her fight of women’s right to vote, with Uncle Sam watching and laughing in the background. In the cartoon, Cleveland is carrying a book called, “What I know about women’s clubs,” while his top hat flies away. Susan B. Anthony is chasing after him with an umbrella in one hand and a newspaper in the other. The hat is a symbol for authority and power; president Cleveland’s hat is ‘flying’ off this represents the loss of authority and power over women and women’s rights. The umbrella is a symbol of protection; in this case the umbrella would symbolize the protection of women’s rights. To tie it in, Susan B. Anthony is chasing after President Grover Cleveland in an effort to protect women’s rights while seeing him loose his hat or his authority to impose repression. Uncle Sam is laughing in the background at President Cleveland running from a woman, as Uncle Sam would have believed, like most men at that time, that a woman voting was a laughable matter. The book Cleveland was carrying titled, “What I know about women’s clubs,” represents how little President Grover knew about women, and was seeking how much comradery there was within the clubs. The adjectives would be the running of President Cleveland, the angered look on Susan B. Anthony’s face, and the laughing of Uncle Sam. Grover’s hat flying off, is clarified by the phrase “What I know about women’s clubs,” by showing his loss of authority and underestimation of women. During this time very little thought was put into women’s rights, women’s activists would have agreed with the cartoon, although those opposed would have found humor in the reactions of both Cleveland and Uncle Sam.

Part 2: (Response posts should be 8-10 sentences)

This document written in 1881 is an excerpt from “History of Women Suffrage”, written by Elizabeth Cady Stanton, Susan B. Anthony, and Matilda J. Gage documents an important moment during one of the conventions. It shows just how important one person’s voice can be. The audience is anyone who wants to know how women off all color played a role in women’s rights. The writer mentioned some important details that makes the story so amazing. She mentions how no one wanted this almost “amazon” (par. 8) women to speak because they did not want people to think they were fighting for the abolition of slaves, comments were even made towards Ms. Truth while walking in that made it clear she was not very welcomed. It was also mentioned how different figures in different churches spoke on how man is the superior being and their reasoning behind such comments and lastly how even though she could not read or write she had a natural intelligence to her. I feel like this document was written to show that people from all walks of life can have a significant impact on issues and to make sure that all people are able to voice their opinions, this comes from the fact that many were scared to have her speak but at the end were amazed at how she shut down comments said by the ministers. Reading this document I can see that life was still very hard for people of color and many people just like today still try to use the bible as actual proof for certain behaviors that they may condone. A question that still remains is what happened to Sojourner Truth, did she get asked to speak again since her words said the things that many of the other people could not phatom saying?
